Daggerheart (2025)

Overview

Daggerheart is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game published by Darrington Press, an imprint of Critical Role Productions. The game was released in 2025.

Description

Daggerheart is a story-docused role-playing game system, where the rules direct players to think narratively and not just mechanically. The game uses a system called Duality Dice, where players roll two twelve-sided dice. One for Hope and one for Fear. In addition to determining whether the character achieves success or fails at the action they are trying to perform, it also generates a helpful Hope resource for the player, or a challenging Fear resource for the game master (GM). Lead designer Spenser Starke explained that there is "also no initiative in Daggerheart". It functions very much like a

or a
Powered By The Apocalypse
game, where the GM is making moves on certain dice rolls and we're passing play back and forth as a conversation. It all flows together in a way that supports the storytelling-first direction that Critical Role has really embraced over the last decade". The game features 279 supplemental cards to track player abilities and characteristics. Darrington Press also launched several digital resources, including an online custom card creator.

In the frontier town of Greystone, where merchants shout their wares and adventurers pass through on their way to unknown destinations, a note on the town board catches your eye: beekeeper Milla's most loyal companion, Sir Barkalot, has vanished, and a reward of two handfuls of gold awaits whoever brings him safely home. Some speak of strange little figures in the fields, while others whisper of dark forces pulling the strings. One thing is certain: this will be an adventure that tests your courage, wits, and teamwork, with hopefully as much laughter as danger along the way!

Gathered close around the Sacred Pyre of Lothinayn, the Enduring who have found safety here have been going missing in the night. There are no signs before they leave, but once they're driven to walk beyond the safe glow they gain a mark on their forehead. Lothinayn is running out of Enduring, and soon it will lose its Pyre if the cause isn't taken care of. In this game, work as a group to survive the terrors of the Umbra to uncover the cause of the missing Enduring, prevent the continued loss of more, and hoepfully recover those who have been lost. --- Lothinayn exists south of the Amber Reach, along the coasts of the Ashen Seas. While the majority of Enduring in the Halcyon Domain need only contend with the beasts of the land turned monstrous atrocities, those here must also deal with the creatures of the cursed depths. Most days are met with waves of frigid mist that carry with it haunting whispers, others are met with a howling roar from far out in the Seas. The Enduring of Lothinayn, once proud fishermen for Amber Reach, still uphold that tradition. However, since the Apostasy the amount of fishermen brave enough has dwindled. A paranoid settlment, being so close to Amber Reach and the Ashen Seas, the Enduring here have purposely remained out of the affairs of other Pyre settlements. They often refuse visitors, traders, and messengers, only allowing the most urgent of requests in. It is a settlement with high, but thin walls, and breaches happen with irregular persistence. The elders of Lothinayn, the oldest barely over 50, uphold the security of their settlement with maybe a grip that's too hard. And now a new catastrophe is rearing it's head for the settlement. If the cause of Lothinayn's newest threat isn't eliminated, the consequences will be more than just food. Your party has been put together as a last hope for the people. Your goal: go north into the Umbra and find what is drawing your people from the safety of the Pyre, eliminate the threat, and return, hopefully with survivors in tow. ---|---|--- Hey, folks 👋🏻 My name is Braeden and, as you can see, I'm putting together an Age of Umbra game for Daggerheart on my DIscord server. I'm a long-time lover, player, and GM of many TTRPGs with experience going back to 8 years old. I play a more narritve-focused style, but I've also always loved video games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring, so a campaign like this feels like home. The table I'm running has four available seats, each of them are paid. Sessions will be on Mondays at 7:30 PM CST, running weekly for a Tier 1-Tier 3 game over 6-8 weeks. The standard rate for my tables is $20/session for a 4 hour session (so $5/hr), but we may go under and I do my best to not go overtime. If that does happen, your session rate is capped at $20. If you're interested, or have other questions, reach out to me here or on Discord. Let's play a fun game together!

New to Daggerheart? Jump into the action with an adventure! Join and learn to play Daggerheart, a system from the team at Critical Role. This adventure will teach you the basics of Daggerheart! A magical forest has appeared overnight at the city’s edge, warping reality with vibrant trees, shifting paths, and strange creatures. Tasked with investigating, you and your party will find that the forest defies ordinary rules. You must confront its puzzles, trials, and encounters that test creativity, patience, and teamwork rather than just combat skill, and every choice you make shapes how the forest responds and what secrets it reveals. This short 6 to 8 session adventure is perfect for D&D players trying Daggerheart for the first time. You’ll start at level 1 and finish at level 2, experiencing both roleplay and combat while exploring whimsical, Feywild-inspired magic. Strange occurrences, playful transformations, and unusual creatures will keep you and your party engaged and wondering what’s real; and what is the forest’s enchantment. At moments where the Feywild touches the material plane, magic becomes alive and emotions heightened, creating unexpected, delightful experiences. Danger is rare; discovery, creativity, and teamwork take center stage. What to expect: 🔷 Linear, episodic sessions. Great for those who are objective minded 🔷 Weekly test of morals and values each episode 🔷 In the moment world building to stretch you creativity 🔷 Epic battle finale where you recruit allies 🔷 The realism of the everyday fantasy world mixed with the whimsy of the magical Feywild The forest isn’t just a place to explore, it’s an invitation for you and your party to play differently, think differently, and see how your choices shape the story. Are you ready to step inside together? A breakdown of the campaign can be found at this primer  to help you get a grasp of the tone and feel. $30 + SPG fees per a player per a session. Name: Jay Pronouns: She/her Timezone: Eastern (GMT -5) System: D&D 5e (2014 or 2024) (Open to others) Platforms: Discord, Roll20, Foundry VTT, DnD Beyond (Open to others) Discord: jay.iz.exhausted Availability: Monday - Wednesday from 2-6pm What I'm looking for: A consistent group/DM for a bi-weekly or monthly long-term campaign. Not as experienced in D&D, so looking for a group that is welcoming and helpful towards newer players. I want to get immersed in the world and the story, and I want to find a table that's welcoming and also fits that lighthearted friend group vibe. About me as a player: I'm content just being part of the game, through the serious and the silly, the scheming and the meme-ing. I tend to lean towards caster classes since I like casting spells more than just doing a martial class, but I am willing to try out other classes. I'm more into lighthearted campaign that get a little serious, but I am also into mystery and political intrigue as well. I'm pretty good with attendance and communication. About me: I like listening to music and D&D podcasts, and also enjoy wrestling. I've only started to play D&D about 2 years ago. Deal-breakers: - Paid games (I don't have money like that) - Use/endorsement of generative AI - Disrespect towards LGBT+, POC, or people with disabilities - Use of slurs or disrespectful jokes - Horror or excessive gore (light horror is fine) - Romance (don't know how to play that) Feel free to message here or on Discord. I look forward to discussing things with you.

Hey, I'm Aero! I've played two D&D campaigns so far and have experience with both 5e (2014) and the 2024 rules. I'm really into D&D and love roleplaying, storytelling, and learning new things. I'm also happy to learn and play other TTRPG systems if your group uses something different. Looking forward to finding a fun group!

Call of Cthulhu
Echoes under Ashwood is a Gen X collaborative storytelling podcast exploring slow-burn cosmic horror through a Call of Cthulhu–inspired campaign set in the fictional town of Ashwood, Ohio. Brought to you by the questionable team at Role For Sanity. Blending small-town mystery, psychological dread, and character-driven actual play, the series follows former misfits returning home to confront repressed memories and something far older waiting in the woods. This is mature, atmospheric horror for listeners who prefer tension over jump scares, where the story unfolds through sound design, improvisation, and the quiet realization that the past is not finished with you.
