Pathfinder 2nd Edition (2019)

Overview

Pathfinder 2nd Edition is a tactical, crunchy and highly customizable heroic fantasy roleplaying game system published by Paizo. Originally released in 2019 as the evolution of the
Pathfinder https://groupfinder.eu/library/pathfinder-2009
system (which grew out of the
D&D 3.5
system, as a reaction to the release of the simplified and more video game-like
D&D 4E https://groupfinder.eu/library/dungeons-dragons-4e-2008
). The system recently received a comprehensive "Remaster" overhaul, which decoupled the game from the legacy Open Game License (OGL), moving it to the system-agnostic ORC License. The Remaster version has updated various terminology and streamlined different conflicting mechanics, the core engine of PF2E remains exactly the same as before. Description Like other d20-based fantasy games, players are an adventuring party that go on adventures, defeat enemies and uncover various mysteries while the Game Master (GM) is in charge of running the world around the characters and is in control of managing any enemies and non-player characters they might encounter. However, where
D&D 5E https://groupfinder.eu/library/dungeons-dragons-55e-2024
leans heavily on "rulings over rules" and simplicity, Pathfinder 2E has shifted its focus on customization and making sure that with every system balance is maintained. Pathfinder 2E is ideal for players who are more into tactical combat, clear rules for exploration, and the ability to build unique character concepts with a reasonable amount of customization without accidentally breaking the game or worry too much about maintaining balance. The system comes with great tools for the GMs as the system provides clear guidelines and mechanics for most situations, meaning the GM rarely has to invent or interpret rules on the fly to keep the game moving. System Overview & Key Features
The 3-Action Economy Pathfinder 2E is famous for their action system. Instead of pre-defined action types, the player can perform creatively distribute their actions how they see fit. Instead of always having a "move action" that the character can utilize or leave unused, the system allows a character to instead use that action as an extra attack. Or instead of attacking, the adventurer can move twice (or thrice, if using all actions).
Degrees of Success Instead of approaching "1" or "20" on the d20 die as a critical result, The system considers "oversucceeding" as a critical success. Succeeding a roll by 10 or more points it is automatically a Critical Success. If you miss the DC by 10 or more, it is a Critical Failure. Because of this, every single +1 or -1 improvement feels more impactful and important.
Feat-Based Character Customization There are no "useless level-ups" Every single level-up players make meaningful choices by selecting from an extensive assortment of Ancestry Feats, Class Feats, Skill Feats, and General Feats. This creates a situation, where even two characters of the same class can be played completely differently.
Reliable Encounter Building The game's underlying math is rigorous and highly functional. An encounter mathematically classified as "Severe" will actually push the party to their limits. GMs can trust the system's encounter building rules completely.
Keyword and Trait System Spells, weapons, and abilities have specific traits (like "Incapacitation" or "Fire"). If a rule has a trait, it consistently interacts with the rest of the game's mechanics in the exact same way, removing ambiguity.
Edicts and Anathema PF2e has abandoned the traditional moral alignment system. Deities and classes are governed by Edicts (things your character must strive to do) and Anathema (things you must avoid), creating a more nuanced approach to roleplaying.

Player (34 M) here looking for a group that plays during the week (Sun, Mon, Tues or Wed). My timezone is PST. I am always looking to make more friends in the TTRPG space and currently seeking a virtual table to join. I love 3rd party content and have access to lots of books on DND Beyond for any groups allowing/using that for their games. My current tablet doesn't handle fancy animated VTTs so sorry if that is a make or break. I have been enjoying 5e for the last 3-4 years and would like to thin I am fairly experienced and am very used to using DND Beyond at this point. I am willing to work with DMs to make a character that fits in the setting/story as well as the party. For those more partial to Pathfinder, I have been curious to try/learn PF2e for anyone patient enough to teach/work with a total newbie. perfectly willing to use Roll 20 or any free VTT if needed. Would likely try to make a character running a simple martial class for my first go at that system in-particular. Happy to answer any additional questions in DMs etc if you are looking for an extra player for your weekday game.

Campaign Shaped by Character Goals

Are you looking to join a friendly, in-person, long-term campaign where character goals shape the story and the plot emerges through gameplay instead of being planned by the GM? System: tbd, I prefer PF2e, but am open to D&D 5e, BitD, Daggerheart, Draw Steel, etc. Where:  in-person, NE Clovis near Shepherd and Temperance When:  Weekly starting in June, probably on Friday or Saturday from 6-10pm Cost:    Free, I can provide digital access to the rulebooks and have extra dice You might be a good match for this table if you are: Willing to make a weekly campaign “a priority not the priority” Beginner-friendly and inclusive (lgbtq, ethnicity, …) Able to be present at the table (avoiding distractions) Ready to engage with and contribute to the story (collaborative storytelling) Interested in each other’s characters and contributions Story and character-focused rather than focused on mechanics and stats “play to find out” not “play to win” Look for ways to help everyone at the table have fun Willing to learn, give feedback, and accept feedback Waiting to learn more about the group and setting before deciding what character you would like to play In this campaign, the players will use their characters’ beliefs and motivations to write actionable goals that overlap with those of other players and the goals of factions. This overlap creates tension and obstacles as the characters pursue their goals and the world reacts. The campaign plot will emerge gradually as the characters make choices on how to pursue their goals and grapple with their flaws and internal struggles (the GM is not outlining or planning a plot). Tristan and Jonal Fishel described the framework of Proactive Roleplaying as distinct from more traditional reactive play, where the BBEG is doing something bad and the characters react to thwart their plans. If videos are more digestible for you, Ginny Di made a nice 13min video discussing this concept. About Me: I (52, he/him) have played and GM’d ttrpgs for nearly 40 years. In 2023 I moved from playing mostly D&D to playing mostly PF2e. I have run several long-form campaigns in both systems and have successfully run both published adventures and homebrew. My strengths as a GM are (1) creating a setting with depth that feels lived in, (2) creating engaging NPCs, (3) creating moments for characters to take the spotlight, (4) supporting new players, and (5) keeping the game and game sessions organized. My main weaknesses include (1) first-person roleplay such as character voices, (2) low comfort with unstructured rulings, (3) dealing with min/maxing and character imbalance within the party, (4) and going to bed too early (like to finish by 10pm). I am working at getting better at running (1) extended social encounters with dramatic tension, (2) political intrigue, and (3) satisfying mysteries. RP Philosophy Rant: I want a table interested in role-playing, but want to be clear I define that as “making decisions based on the character’s rather than the player’s thinking, beliefs, and motivations”. RP applies in combat, social, and exploration encounters. Acting in character (1st person narration and conversations) is great, but not required for good roleplay and making wonderful contributions to the story. Both styles are welcome at our table. Still here? That is a good sign. Let me know you are interested by replying to this post and telling me a little bit about yourself, when you are available, and what you are looking for in a long-term game. We will probably start with some one-shots at Beer for the Meeples to get to know each other before we commit to a long campaign.

Patchwork
Hi, I'm Patchwork. I'm a 20-something geek who enjoys spending his time on various TTRPGs. My previous group fell apart due to scheduling issues, as most do, so I'm here looking for something new! I'm mostly into the roleplaying aspect of tabletop games, I enjoy immersing myself in whatever character and world I'm put into, and bouncing off party hijinks! I usually put a lot of effort and a decent amount of writing into my characters and their backstories, but I usually do that as a creative writing exercise, and never expect a DM to know it front-to-back (I always put a summarization/TL;DR first). But if you do, all the better! In terms of systems and experience with VTTs, you can already see what systems I've looked into/played, and I've gamed a bunch in Roll20 and Foundry, so I'll have no issues navigating either of those VTTs. But if you have something new, I'm always willing to learn! As for the kind of games I'm looking for, I've been playing Fantasy for quite a long time now, and I'm hoping to get into some Sci-fi settings, and trying out systems in that niche. But if you have a fantasy setting that's unique and interesting, I'm up for hearing about it, I might still be interested in playing! Thanks for reading, and hopefully we can share a table sometime!

Floater
Experienced player looking for a new (weekly) group. I've ran long campaigns and played in them. I prefer an older crowd. I can get along with anyone, but I prefer everyone at the table to be able to legally drink a beer. I like a mix of roleplay and combat, with some exploration and puzzle solving mixed in. I'm open to playing other RPG's but I know DnD the best. I don't mind playing with inexperienced players. I don't mind contributing financially for books, VTT, or other necessities, but I'm not interested in paying to play. The type of game I enjoy is one that isn't the same every session. I'm perfectly fine with a session that has one fight that takes all session. I'm also fine with only roleplay. Mix it up, it fights the rut. I also like to vary between serious and fun. Every session doesn't have to be super serious, and every session shouldn't be all joking.  I'm team oriented. I don't have a favorite class or race...I like to explore different combinations and to help out where the group may be weak. I'm available week nights after 5pm.
