Saga of the Change

Overview

Saga of the Change is a casual actual-play podcast using the World of Darkness rule sets and inspired by SM Stirling's Emberverse book series. On a spring night in 2023, all across the globe, all high energy technology ceased to function. From gunpowder and steam power to nuclear fission and the high-technology cybernetics of the Technocracy, everything ground to a halt. In the aftermath, the world burned, and a new high-stakes global game began. The players? Any power, magical or mundane, willing to grasp for power. Caught in the middle, countless ordinary people just trying to survive in a merciless world they no longer recognize. The story plays out in a world we all recognize, but which is forever altered by powers beyond our understanding. Werewolves openly prowl the abandoned streets of New York, vampires rule New Orleans, and Mages battle for control of Chicago. All the while, stranger and more dangerous beings move in the shadows, seeking their own mysterious ends. There's no knowing what mysteries lie in each dark corner of this new world. Join us in finding out.

OpenFray is a free, open-source combat console for Game Masters running Dungeons and Dragons 5e games. It is an initiative tracker that holds the whole encounter. It opens in a browser tab, needs nothing installed, and works without an account. Signing in is free, and it carries a Game Master's fights between devices. It keeps the parts of an encounter that are easiest to lose track of: initiative order, hit points, conditions and effects, concentration, and monster resources such as legendary actions, recharge abilities and spell slots. Effects have two ends, so OpenFray knows both who has advantage and who is granting it, and works that into the rolls. Every roll goes through one place and is logged with the dice behind it. A whole group can make one saving throw at once, with each creature's resistances and immunities already worked in. The table gets a screen of its own. A shared link lets the players follow the turn order and the game log on their phones, showing only what the Game Master chooses to give away. The built-in compendium ships the 2024 and 2014 rules, with opt-in libraries from Kobold Press and OpenFray's own books. Creatures and spells can be built by hand, pasted in as JSON, or taken from a D&D Beyond stat block with the free browser add-on. Compatible with Dungeons and Dragons 5.5e and 5e.

Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game (WEG/d6)

Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game - retroactively nicknamed Star Wars d6 to distinguish it from later games sharing the same title - is the original licensed Star Wars tabletop RPG, designed by Greg Costikyan and published by West End Games from 1987 until the company lost the license in 1998. It ran on the D6 System, adapted from rules Costikyan and colleagues had built for the 1986 Ghostbusters RPG, and its emphasis on speed and cinematic flair over rules complexity made it a strong match for the trilogy's pace.  The game passed through three main rulebook versions - 1st Edition, 2nd Edition, and 2nd Edition Revised and Expanded - before the license moved to Wizards of the Coast for a d20 version in 2000, and later to Fantasy Flight Games (2012-2020) and then Edge Studio, an Asmodee subsidiary, who currently hold it. It won the Origins Award for Best Roleplaying Rules in 1987, and its sourcebooks were considered canonical enough that Timothy Zahn was reportedly handed a box of them as reference material when writing the Thrawn trilogy - Fantasy Flight Games released a deluxe 30th Anniversary reprint of the original rulebook and sourcebook in 2018. Description Playing Star Wars d6 means playing smugglers, rebels, bounty hunters, or Force-sensitive heroes across the classic trilogy era - and, through later sourcebooks, well beyond it - using a system built to move fast and feel cinematic rather than simulate every detail. Skill checks roll a pool of six-sided dice tied to a broad Attribute, like Dexterity or Knowledge, plus any specific skill dice a character has invested in, with one die always a different color: the Wild Die, which can either blow a roll wide open on a 6 or threaten a complication on a 1.  It's a rules-light, pulpy game built to run a session the way the original trilogy actually plays - fast banter, faster blaster fights, and Force powers that feel genuinely special.

The system it directly evolved from is Cyberpunk 2020 Description Players in the game are referred to as "Edgerunners". They are mercenaries, criminals, and specialists living in the metropolis of Night City. The games focus on completing jobs and surviving in a megacorporations and street gangs controlled society. As the global supply chain has collapsed, resources are scarce and players must often rely on black-market brokers, known as Fixers, to find their equipment, weapons, and armor. Cybernetic body modifications are a recurring topic in the game, with the emphasis on the risks of enhancing one's body and mind with. System Overview & Key Features Core Dice Mechanic (Interlock System) The game uses a Interlock System. An action's success is determined with a a ten-sided die (d10) and adding the relevant Statistic and Skill rating. The total is compared against a Difficulty Value (DV). Lifepath Generation When creating a character, the player can either roll or manually pick various options from the "Lifepath" tables. The choices made will define the character's cultural background, their family history, romantic relationships, and potential enemies. This is a built-in method of creating an immersive and entangled character backstory. Roles and Special Abilities Characters are defined by their "Role," which is a the game's class system. Players have a choice between ten different roles: Solo (combat specialist), Netrunner (hacker), and Medtech (doctor). Every role has their unique Special Ability which gives them unique gameplay mechanics. Combat and Armor Combat in Cyberpunk RED relies heavily on their body armor rather than high hit point totals. If an attack successfully penetrates a character's armor, the armor's defensive rating is permanently lowered by one point. This mechanic makes extended combat encounters dangerous and forces players to consider alternative approaches. Netrunning The game's hacking rules require Netrunners to be physically close to the computer systems they want to breach. In the setting, the global internet was destroyed, meaning remote hacking is no longer possible. Cyberware and Humanity Players can install cybernetic implants into their characters to gain new abilities or improve their stats. Every implant reduces a character's Humanity, which subsequently lowers their Empathy . If a character's Humanity reaches zero, they develop a condition called Cyberpsychosis. This generally results in the player permanently losing control of their character and no longer being able to play them.
