Salvage Union

A post-apocalyptic mech RPG

Overview

Salvage Union is a RPG set in a Post-Apoc world where MegaCorps rules pockets of civilization and nomads on giant 'Crawlers' comb the wastes for 'salvage'. Players are part of the 'Salvage Union', on one of these roaming Crawlers and deploy out in jury-rigged Mechs to collect salvage and investigate their ruined world.

Description

Playing Salvage Union means playing a crew of salvager mech pilots living aboard a massive, mobile home base called a Union Crawler, scavenging a corporate-ravaged wasteland for scrap to keep their community alive. Beyond raiders and rival scavengers, threats include monstrous Bio-Titans, alien Meld, and the Corpos who still control most of the world's remaining resources. Much of the game's appeal comes from its two-layered loop: narrative exploration and salvaging runs outside the mech, and tactical, resource-managed mech combat once things go loud, tied together by a deep crafting system that lets pilots build and refit their machines from scavenged parts between missions.

Key features

The Quest Core Mechanic

Every action resolves on a single d20 roll against five possible outcomes - Triumph, Success, Tough Choice, Failure, Catastrophe - rather than modifiers or ability scores. It keeps resolution fast and puts the emphasis on what a player describes doing rather than what bonuses are sitting on their character sheet.

Mech Customization from Scavenged Parts

Pilots build and refit their Mechs from a pool of 30 chassis and over 150 systems and modules scavenged from the wasteland, turning downtime between missions into as much a part of the game as combat itself.

Six Core Classes, Five Hybrid Classes

Pilot characters choose from a mix of Core and Hybrid classes offering dozens of distinct abilities, giving mech-piloting identities as much mechanical range as the mechs they climb into.

Heat and Resource Management in Combat

Mech combat runs on tracked resources like Heat and Salvage rather than open-ended hit point attrition, forcing pilots to manage their machine's limits as carefully as the enemy in front of them.

Scarlet Heroes

Scarlet Heroes is an old-school tabletop role-playing game designed by Kevin Crawford and published by Sine Nomine Publishing in 2014. Built on the chassis of early fantasy role-playing games, it is explicitly engineered to support "duet" play (one Game Master and one player) or completely un-GMed solo play. The system functions both as a standalone game and as a mechanical conversion overlay, allowing a single player character to survive and conquer classic modules written for a full party of four to six adventurers without any structural modifications to the adventure itself. Description The default setting for Scarlet Heroes is the Red Tide, a dark, sword-and-sorcery fantasy world where the remnants of humanity have fled to an isolated archipelago known as the Sunset Isles to escape a world-devouring crimson mist. In this setting, players choose from traditional fantasy heritages and step into classic archetypes: the Fighter, Cleric, Thief, or Magic-User. However, the true focus of the ruleset is its revolutionary math-rebalancing engine. Traditional early-edition fantasy games are notoriously lethal for solo characters due to the "action economy" favoring groups of monsters. Scarlet Heroes alters how standard numbers are interpreted, transforming a single baseline character into a legendary epic hero who can cleave through hordes of lesser foes while preserving the danger of boss monsters.
