Chronicles of Darkness

Overview

Chronicles of Darkness is an urban horror tabletop roleplaying game and shared rules framework, published by Onyx Path Publishing under the copyright of Paradox Interactive, that powers a family of supernatural games including Vampire: The Requiem, Werewolf: The Forsaken, Mage: The Awakening and Hunter: The Vigil. It began in 2004 as a reboot of White Wolf's

The current core rulebook is the revised edition on the Revised Storytelling System, which folds in the rules updates and some of the setting material from The God-Machine Chronicle. Critics generally saw the updated rules as a big improvement, describing them as fluid and open-ended. The system is a reboot of the original World of Darkness, and it is a separate line from the games Renegade Game Studios now publishes, such as

Description

Players take on ordinary people drawn into the supernatural, or the supernatural creatures themselves, in a modern urban setting with no metaplot. The Storyteller, the game's name for its Game Master (GM), runs a chronicle, and the setting details are optional for a campaign. Vampire clans and werewolf tribes were cut down to five each, so the lore is lighter than in the original series. There are eleven game lines in all, including Promethean: The Created, Changeling: The Lost, Geist: The Sin-Eaters, Mummy: The Curse, Demon: The Descent, Beast: The Primordial and Deviant: The Renegades. The game asks a table to take the grounded tone seriously. Opinions on the setting are divided, since some prefer the original series' grander, more fantastical scale and others the reboot's smaller one. It suits groups who like personal horror and mystery and are happy to build a chronicle from the characters' goals.

Seven Years Bad Luck

Roleplay focused
Conversation, character and story take up most of the table time.
Newbie friendly
New players are welcome, and nobody expects you to know the rules beforehand.
Do you feel sensations that you can't explain? Have you seen things that no one else seemed to notice? Have you had strange experiences that are difficult to talk about? We're here to listen The Frederick Anomalous Experiences Support Group is a confidential peer-support group for people who have experienced unusual or unexplained events in and around the Frederick, Maryland Area No judgment. No diagnosis. No explanations required. Meetings are free and confidential. Whatever is happening to you, you don't have to deal with it alone. Please reach out to Dr. Branden L. Mulligan to see about meeting times and places ------------------------------------------------------- What is ‘7-Years Bad Luck’? ‘7-Years Bad Luck’ is a Chronicle of Darkness Game designed to evolve as players play. You begin as ordinary people living in and around the Frederick area. You have all experienced weird phenomena that you can't explain and found others who have experienced similar things. Together, you are members of a small, mostly online support group where you can talk about the things no one else would believe and reassure one another that you're not going crazy. What to expect from the game? This is a character-focused game where relationships, friendships, trust, conflict, and the connections between characters matter. The story begins as a horror-thriller built around a slowly unraveling mystery. As you discover what's actually happening, those revelations may change the game's direction, its genre, and even your character. Your decisions matter, particularly early in the story. There isn't a single predetermined path through the campaign. How your character responds to what happens can open entirely different possibilities, and even death doesn't necessarily end a character's story. Expect mystery, horror, interpersonal drama, difficult decisions, strange situations, and plenty of opportunities simply to let your characters be people. What can I play? Your character can be almost any ordinary human living in or around the Frederick area. More information will follow, but they should have a life: friends, family, relationships, ambitions, mistakes, hobbies, a career, things they care about in this world. Most importantly, they should be someone you'd enjoy getting to know and playing as their life becomes. Your character begins generally unaware of the supernatural world. Occult knowledge is perfectly fine, but at the beginning it consists of things like folklore, urban legends, conspiracy theories, religious traditions, or paranormal beliefs rather than knowledge that monsters are actually real. Supernatural merits are not acceptable at character creation When and where is the game being held? Tuesdays, online through Discord

A Note on LGBTQ+ Friendly: It's not just a tag to me, it's a requirement. I am nonbinary. My pronouns are they/them. This is a nonnegotiable for me. I've had far too many people approach me with rather condescending invites to games about how they 'aren't safe spaces' or 'no politics'. I agree that my gender, and gender identity isn't politics, though people have made it politics. Human rights isn't politics and if you think it is something that should be, you can skip on by me. I am more than fine with darker themes with games, I love a good dark game. But the moment someone says 'this isn't a safe space' or 'no politics' it feels like a giant red flag to me as a game I'm not interested in. So if that's your game, you can skip me. Indepth discussions between characters, debates about what to do in different situations. Being challenged on morality of what is happening. Highs of wins fought through hard work and the sting of defeats felt through the whole group, ending in commiseration at the tavern as our characters mourn the loss of a favored NPC. Roleplay is what I love most about TTRPG's. I've been playing them since I was 12 years old (I am now 41), and while at the time it was because of all the cool monsters and stuff, even then I was captured by the different stories you could tell. I would love to share in the telling of the stories with you and your group. I've got extensive experience in a number of different systems from D&D in various incarnations to World of Darkness and Chronicles of Darkness to Masks, Stars Without Number and Fantasy Flight Star Wars. I'm always up for learning a new system! I've also GMed my fair share of games in the past, but am just looking to play right now due to my health right now (I am disabled) That isn't to say I -don't- like the tactical and exploration aspects of the game. When it comes to combat I tend to be more of a tactition sort of player, analyzing the playfield and trying to figure out the enemy. Though that hasn't ever stopped me from making the -stupid- decisions because they were in character. Story and plot over mechanical wins for me every time.  Failure is always an option. It  never is an end point, because it just gives new opportunities for story, even if it stings and hurts in the moment. We find the motivation in that. Current Availability: Tuesday and Thursday evenings weekly. Monday evenings and Saturday days every other week.

Hello all. I am Tyler (he/him) (under 18 but over 15) (AEDT) and I have 4 years of experience as a player and 4 years as a GM. I would love to find new games to join as a player. I am someone that enjoys playing character driven and story based game. I'm not really a megadungeon kind of guy. But I do enjoy some combat. Let's say 50:50 RP: combat ratio with it being ok if the roleplay is higher up to 100:0 I am looking for an online weekly or fortnightly table that is sometime from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM AEDT Even though my most played game is DnD, I enjoy playing other systems like Alien the roleplaying Game, Pathfinder and others. I am always down to learn a new game. If you made it this far, I hope I have left a good impression. My favourite video game at the moment is Baldur's Gate 3, My favourite books are Brandon Sanderson Cosmere and Star Trek Q-Squared and finally my dream job is to be a video game programmer.

I'm Nick, I'm a 32yo male/AMAB non-binary person, with a few years of experience playing D&D 3.5, D&D 5.0, and CoC 7th. I'm a little burnt out on those (mostly D&D/high fantasy) so I'd prefer to play a different system, but I'm not against those systems if the campaign is appealing enough. I'm open-minded, intelligent, and a quick learner so picking up new systems is pretty easy for me. The systems that appeal to me the most right now are Mutants & Masterminds, Cyberpunk, Mothership, Kult, Unknown Armies, any World/Chronicles of Darkness system, or any obscure or homebrew horror system (any setting with heavy horror). My ideal group would consist of people around my age but I'll play with anyone 18+. I'm friendly and get along with pretty much everyone, and have thick skin so I don't mind banter, darker themes, or adult content. LGBTQIA+ friendly (obviously lol), female friendly, POC friendly. I'm also not going to get too antsy if we get a little derailed from play sometimes, especially with goofier groups, but I love serious play just as much. Currently looking to play weekly on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, during evenings/nights. Saturdays are undesirable at the moment but if I really love the campaign idea I can make the time for it. I can't play Tuesday afternoons and both Wednesday and Sunday are off limits at the moment. Long term campaigns are ideal. I'm a pretty dedicated player, I rarely miss sessions. Any VTT is fine (I love Foundry), theater of the mind is also fine. I'm not a big fan of Roll20 but I'll use it if I have to lol. I have and use Discord regularly. I also would pefer not to be on cam, but I do have a webcam. However I do not want to be recorded and posted on the public internet so skip me if you're running on a stream, youtube recording, podcast, etc. Recordings for private note-taking purposes are okay but do not post them online publicly. I love creating characters (especially flawed characters) so I usually have several character ideas for multiple systems either ready-to-play or brewing, even for systems I've ever played (such as M&M 3e, Unknown Armies, Kult, etc). I'm flexible enough to stick with RAW or go full homebrew, I will always work with the DM to ensure that my character is suitable for their campaign, especially if we dive into heavy homebrew. I generally prefer not to min/max but I'm not against it, I just find flawed characters (mechanical and flavor) to be far more interesting and fun to play. I don't meta game, backseat game, rules lawyer, and I don't have main character syndrome (if anything I'm a little shy of the limelight). I can also handle bad outcomes and character death, I believe that's just part of the storytelling aspect of TTRPGs. I love roleplay, combat, exploration, puzzle solving, pretty much every aspect of TTRPGs so I'm generally comfortable with any ratio. I also sometimes to photo-manipulation/digital collage art, drawn art (digital and traditional), etc for my character, other characters, campaigns, but I'm not very good at it (yet). Usually this is for comedic effect or out of necessity. I also do art and writing outside of TTRPG play. Not interested in play-by-post or paid games, sorry.

Looking to take a break from running game to acutally play, and preferrably something that's not 5th Ed (it's not off the table, just not my first choice). Like my games with a fairly even balance between RP and combat, canted more toward RP, push-come-to-shove. Most interested right now in "New" World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness 1st Ed (Promethean: The Created is a personal favorite), but open to most anything if the campaign premise sounds good. Hello, you may call me Cunomaglos until we are better aquainted, I am 26 and Male. I have a deep passion when it comes to storytelling, mythology, folklore and naturally TTRPGs. I have 8 years, and thousands of hours of experience, as both a DM and Player. When it comes to the systems I have played, it's mostly D&D 5e and Pathfinder 2e, but I have branched out a bit more into World of Darkness 20th, Fabula Ultima, Savage Worlds, FATE, etc.  A Little More About Me: - My favorite bands are Metallica and Iron Maiden, though I also like classical, rock, ballads, historical, etc. (Favorite album is Ride the Lightning) - My favorite videogame of all time is Persona 3, having been raised on FES at an age earlier than intended and had me reading college psychology textbooks as a kid. Probably followed by Assassin's Creed 2 that I played when blind (physically)  - My favorite books of all time are Frankenstein and the Art of War, if you take it as a philosphical work rather than purely about tactics.  - I typically tend to run more Gothic Fantasy style games and characters.

Interviews
This podcast is about tabletop role-playing games around the world. In every episode, I interview RPG enthusiasts and professionals from a non-English speaking country about what games they play, what unique RPGs exist in their country, and how new people get into the hobby. Interviewees include regular gamers, club organizers, game shop owners, creators of actual play videos, RPG authors, and gaming studios.  While some places are known for their large role-playing scene and have a lot of local RPG systems, other regions of the world have smaller scenes and might not even have a single RPG in the local language. Every regular episode ends with a teaser for the next country – an excerpt from an actual play recording in that country’s language. The aim of this podcast is to broaden our horizon and find out about RPGs from all over the world. Enjoy! Forged in the Dark (2017)

Evil Hat Productions
Rules-medium
Forged in the Dark is a tabletop roleplaying game framework and System Reference Document created by John Harper. Released in 2017, it is the underlying engine that powers Blades in the Dark and has since been used by independent designers to build countless other games, such as Scum and Villainy and Band of Blades. It excels at telling stories about capable but flawed groups of people pulling off daring missions against overwhelming odds. The system it directly evolved from is Blades in the Dark Description Instead of being a single game, Forged in the Dark is an open license toolkit. Players form a crew, whether they are space smugglers, military mercenaries, or rebel outcasts, and undertake dangerous missions known as Scores. The system is heavily narrative and focuses on failing forward, meaning a bad dice roll never stalls the story, but instead introduces a new complication. It completely eliminates tedious planning phases by throwing players directly into the action. System Overview & Key Features The d6 Dice Pool To resolve a risky action, a player rolls a pool of six sided dice based on their action rating. The highest single die determines the result. A six is a full success, a four or five is a partial success with a consequence, and a one to three is a bad outcome. Position and Effect Before the dice hit the table, the Game Master establishes the Position (Controlled, Risky, or Desperate) and the Effect (Limited, Standard, or Great). This ensures everyone understands exactly what is at stake and how much impact the action will have. Progress Clocks The game tracks complex threats and long term projects using circular clocks divided into segments. A stealth mission might have a clock for the guards going on high alert, filling up bit by bit as the players roll partial successes or failures. Stress and Resistance Characters have a Stress track that they can spend to push themselves for extra dice or to assist an ally. More importantly, players can spend Stress to resist any consequence the Game Master introduces, allowing characters to survive deadly situations by sheer willpower. Flashbacks Players do not need to spend hours planning a heist or mission. When they encounter an obstacle, they can simply spend Stress to declare a flashback, narrating how their character anticipated the problem and set up a solution in the past. Phases of Play The game flows through specific phases. Free Play is where characters gather information and choose a target. The Score is the actual mission. Finally, Downtime allows the crew to recover from injuries, reduce their heat, and work on personal projects before the cycle begins again.

The One Ring Second Edition

English
French
Polish
The One Ring is a tabletop roleplaying game of journeys and fellowship in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, designed by Francesco Nepitello and Marco Maggi. The first edition was published by Cubicle 7 in 2011 and set in Wilderland, the lands around Mirkwood and the Lonely Mountain. Cubicle 7 stopped publishing the game in 2019, and Free League Publishing took over the licence in 2020, announcing a second edition that moved the setting to Eriador. It was funded on Kickstarter, with backer shipments beginning in October 2021 and general retail release on 22 March 2022. The second edition won a 2022 Gold ENnie Award for interior art, and its French edition won the 2024 Graal d'or for Best New Edition. The second edition replaces the first edition published by Cubicle 7, and the two share a core approach to travel, hope and shadow. Description Players take on heroes of the Free Peoples of Middle-earth, such as Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves and Men of the North, who band together as a company. The Game Master is called the Loremaster (LM), and the second edition is set in Eriador roughly twenty years after Bilbo Baggins disappeared from the Shire. Sauron's shadow is growing again, but the world is still mostly quiet, and the game concentrates on the small, hard-won victories of ordinary heroes rather than saving the world. Play alternates between two rhythms. During the Adventuring phase, the company travels, explores, fights and talks its way through the Wild. In the Fellowship phase between adventures, heroes rest, recover, practise skills and pursue personal undertakings. The game asks a table to accept slow, attritional travel in which the road itself wears the company down, and to play characters whose hope can falter. It suits groups who want Tolkien's tone, not Tolkien's powerful wizards and heroes.
