Hexham RPG group

West Marches / Living World
One world and a big pool of players, but no fixed party - whoever signs up that week is who plays.
Our Open Table series of one-shots is normally on Monday evenings in Hexham (licensed venue). (The day may change later this year). There isn't a regular commitment for these sessions. We also have ongoing campaigns that meet in Hexham or Allendale (depending on venue availability). Our members come from all around West Tynedale. We love new members because new friends are nice and it really helps with scheduling games. We have mostly played 5e (because its familiar) but will explore other game systems. [Online] [5e 2014] [CST] DM Looking for 5 Players

Hey everyone! The world is dying, and the last great civilizations are hiding beneath the earth, ignoring the problem. Sanctuary is a massive underground city filled with powerful wizards, ancient magic, dangerous guilds, and political rivalries. While the world above crumbles, those in power are too busy pursuing their own plans and fighting among themselves to stop what's coming. You aren't here to save the world. At least, not at first. You're here for your own reasons, whatever they may be. Gold, knowledge, revenge, ambition, or something worth fighting for — Sanctuary has opportunities for those willing to take risks. What begins as a simple job could become something far bigger than you ever intended. I'm a longtime online DM looking for 5 players for a homebrew D&D 5e (2014) campaign that I'm really excited to run. We'll play Sundays from 8:15 AM to 11:15 AM CST using Foundry VTT and Discord. There will be a 15-minute break during each session, and the campaign is expected to run for approximately 3 months. This is a dark fantasy campaign featuring exploration, roleplay, political conflict, strange magic, and large-scale battles. Your decisions can have lasting consequences on the city, its people, and the factions fighting for control. I'm looking for players who want to get invested in the world, work together, and see where their choices take them. The Hook The world is dying. The surface has become a wasteland. Something from beyond this world has been feeding on the life of the planet, and the civilizations that once stood against it are mostly gone. What remains survives beneath the earth. Sanctuary is one of the last great cities of the mortal realm — a massive underground civilization built by those who fled the dying surface. It's a city of powerful wizards, ancient magic, wealthy merchants, dangerous guilds, and ordinary people simply trying to survive. But Sanctuary has a problem. The wizards who rule the city are too busy fighting over power, politics, research, and old grudges to agree on what should be done about the world outside. The Fae Queens are barely holding the last remnants of life together. The surface is dying. The city is cracking. And something is coming. You aren't a legendary hero. Not yet, anyway. You're an adventurer who needs gold. Fortunately, there's always work for people willing to risk their lives. The Retrievers Guild specializes in recovering magical artifacts, lost knowledge, and valuable resources from places no sane person would willingly visit. You've spent weeks looking for work. Today, you finally get a contract. A surface expedition. Good pay. Valuable discoveries. A chance to make a name for yourselves. You arrive at the Retrievers Guild warehouse, where hundreds of adventurers are preparing for the expedition. Wagons are being loaded. Weapons are being checked. Spells are being prepared. Your contract seems simple: Protect the expedition. Protect each other. Bring back what you find. But the surface has secrets. The Drow are moving. The Fae are dying. Something is hunting the survivors of the old world. And the deeper you venture into the ruins of what came before, the more obvious it becomes that this expedition isn't just about treasure. Sanctuary is running out of time. Eventually, you'll have to decide what you're willing to do about it. Will you protect Sanctuary? Change it? Or burn it down and build something better? That choice belongs to you. The Setting For nearly 500 years, Sanctuary has existed beneath the dying world, built by those who fled the surface in hopes of preserving what remained of civilization. What began as a refuge has become a massive underground city of towering districts, ancient magic, powerful wizards, wealthy merchants, dangerous guilds, and political factions. Sanctuary is humanity's greatest hope for survival — but that doesn't mean its people agree on what survival should look like. Life goes on beneath the earth. Adventurers gamble on underground ring fights, crowds gather to watch water-skimmer races through the city's waterways, and merchants compete for fortunes while guilds fight over contracts, influence, and secrets. There is always money to be made, trouble to find, or someone willing to pay you to take a risk. But beyond the noise and spectacle, the city is under pressure. Resources are precious, old rivalries run deep, and the world above grows more hostile with every passing year. Whatever future Sanctuary has, it won't be decided by its rulers alone. The campaign draws inspiration from Dragon Age, Warhammer: Age of Sigmar, The Witcher, Dark Souls, Forgotten Realms, He Who Fights with Monsters, and Brandon Sanderson. Expect a mix of dark fantasy, exploration, large-scale battles, political conflict, strange magic, and player-driven choices. Your decisions can have lasting consequences for the city, its people, and the factions fighting to shape its future. Game Rules D&D 5e 2014 Mostly standard rules Most official 2014 content is allowed Tasha's Cauldron of Everything is generally allowed Very few house-rule adjustments Homebrew content is available for the setting, including some homebrew classes Character creation will be discussed with the group before play Game Requirements Foundry VTT installed on your PC Discord installed on your PC A good-quality microphone Ability to communicate clearly through Discord A reasonably quiet playing environment Reliable attendance Schedule Sundays: 8:15 AM – 11:15 AM CST There will be a 15-minute break in the middle of the session. The campaign is expected to run for approximately 3 months. What I'm Looking For I'm looking for 5 players who enjoy working together and want to be part of a group with good chemistry. You don't need to be a professional roleplayer or a hardcore D&D veteran. I'm mainly looking for players who get along well with others, enjoy teamwork and roleplay, are comfortable communicating over Discord, show up consistently, and want to experience a campaign where their choices actually matter. Interested in joining? Send me a Reddit DM and tell me a little about yourself! Nothing fancy — I just want to get to know you a bit and see if we'd be a good fit for the group. Let me know what you enjoy about D&D, what kind of games you like playing, and confirm that Sundays from 8:15–11:15 AM CST work for you. That's it! We'll chat a bit, and if it seems like a good fit, we'll go from there. A Few Things to Know Before Joining Dice gods rule over all — player death is possible and can be a sad or angering topic. I hope you will act with honor during these times, as I know the world and other players will mourn the loss. I promise that I will retcon when needed; however, 99% of the time, it stands. Choices were made, and I wish you the best of luck! I run 99% Rules as Written. For the weird instances, I have a long history with the game, so I've run into most issues. Rules are rules. I like them. I also know when the Rule of Cool is needed. I love Dark Souls and The Way of Kings, and you'll see certain aspects at play. I love difficult challenges and courageous heroes. I don't like heroes who always need the spotlight or who talk over each other in a small chat room. Out-of-the-box thinking is rewarded, but spells do as they say. Fae deals are powerful and can have lasting impacts. Fae Queens are fickle and have their own rules. I love The Dresden Files, and you'll see a lot of the rules for the Fae from that book series. I have been in the online D&D space for a long time; thus, fan noises are not allowed, lol. Also, I have a kid, and she will be nearby but will not pester : ) Her mom will be nearby. A Little About Me I've been playing and DMing D&D online for years, and I'm excited to bring this world to life. I love creative problem-solving, memorable characters, difficult encounters, and seeing players come up with plans I never expected. At the end of the day, I'm here to run a fun game with a group of people who enjoy playing together. I take the game seriously, but I'm not trying to make it a second job. I love a good plan, a terrible plan that somehow works, and those moments where the entire table loses it laughing. I'm excited to see what you bring to the table and what kind of story we end up creating together!
